Fishermen’s Unexpected Find

A fishing crew hauled a rusted container from the sea off Cornwall—and found a fortune in ancient artifacts inside.

The Sea Serpent crew initially thought they’d snagged debris. Instead, they uncovered Roman pottery, Greek bronze figures, and Celtic jewelry.

“We nearly fell overboard,” said Captain Tom Hawkins. “It was packed like a time capsule.”

The container reportedly belongs to Italian billionaire Alessandro Rossi, whose cargo ship lost several containers in a 2022 storm off Ireland. The collection was destined for his private museum.

Recovered items include:

  • Roman amphorae

  • Ancient Greek figurines

  • Celtic jewelry

  • Roman shield fragment

Maritime archaeologist Dr. Eleanor Vance called it “a miraculous discovery.”

Rossi offered a reward at the time, but the search was abandoned after six months.

Marine expert Captain Robert Shaw said: “Finding this intact three years later? Better odds than winning the lottery.”

The fishermen now wait to learn their salvage reward while authorities secure the artifacts.
